What a bunch of heroes! From young to old, far and near, volunteers came to the Sespe Cienega Native Plant Trail to make it healthy and expanded on Saturday 10/12. Out with the castor bean, in with the mulch. Rocks were hauled in by hand to lay out a trail extension. “The appeal of this place is off the charts,” remarked Nina Danza, Sierra Club volunteer, “look who’s here: middle school kids, high school enviro club, community college students, Chumash people, expert birders, 4H!” The native plant trail is located at the entry of the Fillmore Fish hatchery and is now managed by Friends of the Santa Clara River after installation by a collaboration with UCSB and others. More dates are on the events page to get in on the action.
