Patagonia Ocean Friendly Garden Planting Day

On a hot and breezy morning in early June, Friends of the Santa Clara River joined Surfrider and Channel Islands Restoration in helping Lars Yahr, Facilities Manager of the Patagonia Ventura Campus, with his new landscape design, extending a small Ocean Friendly Garden at the front of the store that now stretches along the outside of the store and campus. Surfrider’s Ocean Friendly Garden program is a landscape certification that promotes clean oceans and protected rivers by using methods such as placing California native plants in landscaping.

Board Members, Barbara Wampole, Holly Wright and Candice Meneghin with baby Bella, used their planting and mulching skills to help the team plant over 50 young native plants including, Matilija Poppies, Black and Purple Sages and Monkey Flowers. Bella was very helpful with smiles!

Gardening experts Lars, Surfrider Chair, Laura Oergal and Doug and Brad from Channel Islands Restoration guided everyone with great direction and advice. After all the hard work, Lars had sandwiches for the volunteers and a great tour of the Patagonia campus.

It was a fun day, made even more special being able to give back to a company that gives so much to protect nature and our environment. Thanks Lars and Patagonia for a great time!
