The Sespe Cienega Interpretive Trail has been a community led project since 2017, when it was first established with a donation from the large restoration work being done behind the hatchery. Since that starting point, FSCR has partnered with many volunteers to keep growing the trail. Ventura County Resource Conservation District supported it with a grant that included an outdoor classroom program for the Boys and Girls Club of the Santa Clara River Valley and funds for the shade sail, more paths and three interpretive signs. Many birds nest in the area and the plant species vary between wetland during rain and riparian chaparral during dry seasons. Donations and support are welcome so we can continue to maintain this community endeavor!
Friends of the Santa Clara River (FSCR) is hosting a volunteer day at the Sespe Cienega Trail located at the Fillmore Fish Hatchery in Fillmore, California. Have fun helping grow the trail and learning about our local Santa Clara River Watershed, including its ecology, wildlife and the riparian restoration happening along the River. All ages welcome! Please bring closed toed shoes, water and a sun hat. Gloves and tools provided.
