FSCR Receives $5,000 Grant
from the Tides Foundation
The Tides Foundation, under its California Wildlands Grassroots Fund, on June 5, 2003, awarded friends of the Santa Clara River a $5,000 grant for the purpose of developing a color brochure on the River and for conducting biological surveys in the River corridor. Biologists have been employed by FSCR in the past for such surveys and have found species in areas where developer-sponsored other surveys have reported none.
The goal of these efforts is directly in line with the mission of FSCR in protecting the biological resources of the Santa Clara River. The specific objectives of work under the grant will be to achieve more effective environmental review of development projects, and to improve chances of obtaining project revisions and larger riparian buffer zones to reduce impacts to wildlife, as well as to achieve appropriate mitigation for project impacts.
